Description

1882-CC Five Dollar, MS61
Natural Patina, CAC Endorsement

1882-CC $5 MS61 PCGS. CAC. Ex: The Fairmont Collection. Although the Carson City Mint produced more than 82,000 half eagles in 1882, these coins have not survived to the extent that mintage would suggest. While double eagles from Carson City were often exported for trade, half eagles served domestic commerce. Most surviving 1882-CC fives are circulated. Mint State pieces are scarce in all grades. This CAC-endorsed example boasts frosty greenish-gold luster, and it is boldly struck. Some expected circulation scars in the left obverse field prevent a finer grade, but do not hinder CAC's perception of this coin's quality within the MS61 grade. Population: 22 in 61, 14 finer. CAC: 5 in 61, 3 finer (12/24).
Ex: The Fairmont Collection - Hendricks Set (Stack's Bowers, 4/2022), lot 5154.
