Description

Substantial luster remains on this AU58 1876-CC, which features only the slightest high point wear and partially reflective fields that retain subtle contrast with the raised devices. Medium sun-gold color graces the well-struck surfaces, with full stars and only slight weakness near the bun and upper hair strands, as often found. A group of light abrasions are located to the right of Liberty's neck and scattered faint hairlines join a few light marks when viewed under a loupe. The 1876-CC is the lowest-mintage Carson City half eagle, and the major grading services have awarded Mint State grades on only a handful of occasions. The Carson City half eagle collector interested in acquiring a pleasing near-Mint example should give this coin careful consideration. The population remains virtually unchanged over the past 15+ years. NGC Census: 8 in 58, 3 finer (3/25).
