Description

1892 Liberty Nickel, MS66
Fully Struck With Thick Mint Luster

1892 5C MS66 NGC. CAC. In the 1995 book The Complete Guide to Shield and Liberty Head Nickels, Peters and Mohon rank the 1892 sixth in rarity in the business strike Liberty series, and they opine that the date is "very rare" in MS66. In the years since, several other coins have been certified in MS66, and today there are a total of 24 examples so and still none are finer (8/10). This Condition Census Gem is devoid of both toning and impediments to the billowy mint luster. The uncommonly powerful impression has resulted in full striking definition throughout (yes, even over the ear of corn in the lower left reverse wreath). There are a couple of small abrasions in the center of the reverse, none of which appear to be out of context with the assigned grade.(Registry values: N1793)
