    Description

    Surprising Premium Gem 1912-S Nickel
    Lustrous and Distinctly Toned

1912-S 5C MS66 NGC. Non-silver, non-gold coinage was the exclusive purview of the main Mint in Philadelphia until the 20th century. The first branch mint minors were the 1908-S Indian cents. Denver joined in with the 1911-D Lincoln cent, while both Mints made their five-cent nickel debut in 1912, final official year of the Liberty nickel design.

This is an exquisitely preserved and conditionally rare Premium Gem survivor from the San Francisco issue, a noted key date with a mintage of only 238,000 pieces. The strike is typically soft on the left ear of corn but the stars have better detail. Toning is blue-to-violet at the margins with gold-to-peach interiors.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 277R, PCGS# 3875)
