1840 $2 1/2 AU50 NGC. Though it is not the most heavily minted quarter eagle issue for the year, the 1840 commands a surprisingly small premium in grades through XF. Only AU and better pieces, such as the present coin, command better prices. The bright yellow-gold surfaces of this well struck piece show subtle crescents of orange along the margins.(Registry values: P2)
