Description

1843 Two and a Half, MS62
Pleasing Mint State Rarity

1843 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. A handful of 1843 quarter eagles were recovered from the S.S. Central America shipwreck with the most recent salvage expedition, although none of these were in Mint State. Uncirculated examples of this issue are rare and are prohibitively elusive finer than MS62. This collectible Mint State coin displays pleasing, satiny yellow-gold luster and minimal abrasions for the grade. Some strike softness on the hair curls around Liberty's brow and on the eagle's leg feathers is typical of the issue. Population: 10 in 62, 4 finer (5/23).(Registry values: P2)
