Description
1843-C Large Date Quarter Eagle, AU58
Unusually Sharp Strike
1843-C $2 1/2 Large Date, Plain 4, AU58 NGC. Winter-1, with
a plain 4 and repunched 18 and mintmark. From a moderate mintage of
23,076 pieces, the 1843-C Large Date quarter eagle is one of the
more available issues from the Charlotte Mint. Approximately
250-350 examples are known today, with a population of 50-80
specimens in AU grades, per Doug Winter. This near-Mint example
exhibits much better details than usually found on this date, and
the pleasing hazel-gold surfaces are minimally abraded.Ex: Fort Worth Signature (Heritage, 3/2010), lot 2070.(Registry values: P2)
