Description

Rare 1843-O Large Date Quarter Eagle, MS61

1843-O $2 1/2 Large Date, Plain 4 MS61 PCGS. Liberty's neck is heavily rusted and the mintmark is sharply doubled, both characteristics of this rare and important variety. Most gold specialists agree that only about a dozen Mint State pieces are known. This specimen is fully lustrous with frosty yellow surfaces and sharp design details. A few scattered marks are visible, but the eye appeal is much higher than expected for the grade. Population: 4 in 61, 2 finer (8/07).(Registry values: P2)
