    Select 1843-O Quarter Eagle
Only Five Finer at PCGS, Unlisted Variety

1843-O $2 1/2 Small Date, Crosslet 4 MS63 PCGS. Variety 6. The 1843-O quarter eagle boasts a substantial mintage of 288,002 pieces, and the issue is readily available in lower grades. Select specimens are rare, however, and finer examples are extremely elusive. The obverse of this attractive coin is sharply detailed, but the reverse shows some softness on the eagle's feathers. The surfaces display vibrant mint luster, with only a few minor contact marks. This coin exhibits an earlier die state of the obverse of Winter's Variety 2, with die cracks between the numerals in the date, before lapping. The reverse has a mintmark location similar to that of Variety 1. Population: 6 in 63, 5 finer (8/11).
