Description

Near-Mint 1844-C Quarter Eagle
A Difficult C-Mint Issue in High Grade

1844-C $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1. The 1844-C quarter eagle is one of more difficult C-mint issues, with relatively few and often well circulated survivors from a mintage of just 11,622 coins. The striking quality of the '44-C is generally poor and these deficiencies can be compounded by various planchet flaws as well. This piece displays characteristic green-gold color with a slight mixture of reddish patina. There is normal softness in the centers and ample evidence of luster can be seen about the devices. Population: 13 in 58, 5 finer (2/10).
