Description

Scarce 1844-C Quarter Eagle, XF45

1844-C $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS. Variety 1, the only die marriage known for the issue. This piece has better-than-expected eye appeal for a Choice XF survivor. This is at least partly because of the enticing lime-green and copper-orange toning that encompasses the lightly worn surfaces. Surface marks are few, and there are only one or two that are noticeable on either side, without a magnifier. "The 1844-C is among the scarcer Charlotte quarter eagles," according to Doug Winter. Population: 14 in 45, 40 finer (4/09).(Registry values: P2)
