Description
1844-D Quarter Eagle, AU50
A Pleasing Dahlonega Type Coin
1844-D $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. Variety 5-H. The 1844-D quarter
eagle is among the more available issues of the series, with a
reported mintage of 17,300 pieces, and an estimated surviving
population of 175 to 200 examples in all grades. The date is
scarce-to-rare at AU levels. The present coin shows the customary
weakness on Liberty's hair and the eagle's feathers, but the stars
and legend are strongly impressed. The lightly abraded surfaces
exhibit frosty mint luster and pleasing eye appeal. Population: 21
in 50, 60 finer (10/09).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25GV, PCGS# 7736, GSID# 8348)
