Description
Sharp 1844-D Quarter Eagle, MS61
1844-D $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. CAC. Variety 5-I with the mintmark placed low, much scarcer than the usual Variety 5-H. The 1844-D is often seen poorly struck. Aside from a touch of softness in the hair over Liberty's ear, this piece exhibits sharply struck design elements. Yellow-gold patina dominates both sides, and each displays occasional splashes of apricot. The most potent luster is seen in the recesses. A scattering of wispy marks helps account for the grade. Housed in a former generation holder.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25GV, PCGS# 7736, GSID# 8348)
