    Near-Mint 1845-D Quarter Eagle
    Sharply Struck D-Mint Example

1845-D $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Variety 6-I, the only known variety. The 1845-D quarter eagle is scarcer than its mintage of 19,460 pieces would indicate, particularly in high grade. The surviving population of this issue is estimated at 150-175 pieces, with 28-32 examples in AU grades. The present coin is well, but not fully struck, with sharp stars and denticles. A scratch from Liberty's head to star 12 is the only mark of note. Population: 16 in 58, 8 finer (2/10).
From The Lucy Llewellyn Collection of Southern Gold.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25GX, PCGS# 7738)
