Description
1846 Quarter Eagle, MS63
Top-Drawer Condition Census Example
1846 $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. The 1846 quarter eagle, sporting a
mintage of 21,598 pieces, can be located in circulated grades with
a degree of effort. Uncirculated examples, however, are a true
condition rarity. The two major grading services have seen a little
over 30 specimens in mint condition, none finer than MS63.The Select piece offered in this lot is one of the three finest seen at either service. When viewed from directly overhead the partially prooflike surfaces yield a mild gold-on-black appearance. Sharply struck throughout, accentuating somewhat the field-motif contrast. The few marks are relatively light and within the parameters of the designated grade. Really a nice coin for an MS63. Population: 2 in 63, 0 finer (10/14).(Registry values: P2)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25GZ, PCGS# 7740, Greysheet# 8267)
Weight: 4.18 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
