Description

1846-C $2 1/2 --Improperly Cleaned--NGC. AU Details. Variety 1, the only known variety. Production in 1846 was limited to just a few months at the end of the year, and only 4,808 quarter eagles were produced. As a result the 1846-C ranks near the top of the overall and high grade rarities among C-mint quarter eagles. Significant portions of original prooflikeness remains around the devices on each side. Light planchet flaking is seen on each side, as usual, and there are several clashmarks around the eagle on the reverse.
