Description

Desirable 1847-C Quarter Eagle, AU58

1847-C $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Variety-1. The 1847-C is the most available quarter eagle from the Charlotte Mint, with an original mintage of 23,226 pieces. Doug Winter estimates a surviving population of 350-450 examples in all grades. The date is scarce at the AU58 level. The coin offered here is a pleasing example, with slight wear on Liberty's hair and tiara and much remaining mint luster. A thin scratch on Liberty's neck and another on her cheek are the only distractions noted. Population: 16 in 58, 27 finer (3/09).(Registry values: P2)
