    A Clean Dahlonega Type Coin

    1847-D $2 1/2 AU53 NGC. Variety 9-N. Yellow-gold surfaces reveal light orange accents and show just a few small marks. Like other coins of the issue, this example features a sharp strike, with faint signs of circulation over each side. While fewer coins were struck than in preceding years (15,784 pieces), the 1847-D quarter eagle tends to more available, making it appropriate for type purposes.(Registry values: P2)
