Elusive 1847-O Quarter Eagle, MS62

1847-O $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. Slight evidence of date recutting is visible, unsurprising given the particular issue. Total production was 124,000 coins, requiring multiple die pairs. This lovely piece has bright greenish-gold luster. Both sides have some weakness, including hair curls over the forehead, a few stars, and the eagle's left (facing) leg. The obverse has several die cracks ranging from faint to heavy. Census: 5 in 62, 5 finer (11/09).(Registry values: P2)
