Conditionally Rare 1848 Quarter Eagle, MS62

1848 $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth note that the "1848 quarter eagle is actually much rarer than the 1848, CAL. Above Eagle variety in Mint State." An interesting observation, although rarity, as always, is a combination of demand and supply. This example offers attractive greenish-gold surfaces, with parallel planchet striations visible on both sides. A few stray abrasions constitute the grade, but much appeal is present. The strike is soft on the eagle's left (facing) leg, but sharp elsewhere. A rare and attractive coin. Census: 5 in 62, 3 finer (8/08).
