1848-C $2 1/2 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Variety 2. The rarer of the two die marriages known for this low mintage Charlotte issue. The second 8 is closer to the bust, relative to Variety 1, and the obverse field is buckled, as made. The peach-gold and olive-green surfaces are hairlined, and the strike shows softness on the curls and the eagle's neck and legs.(Registry values: P2)
