Bright 1850-C Quarter Eagle, AU50, Variety 12-G

1850-C $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. Variety 12-G. Two different reverse dies were used for the coinage of 1850-C quarter eagles. The mintmark is centered over the digit 1 in the fraction on this variety with reverse G. The other reverse has the mintmark centered over the top of the fraction bar. Variety 12-G is slightly more common. Traces of luster reside in the recesses of this bright peach-gold specimen. Well defined, except for softness in the eagle's legs. A couple of hair-thin marks are noted on the obverse.(Registry values: P2)
