    The Usual Variety

    1850-C $2 1/2 AU55 NGC. Variety 1. Two die varieties are known from a single obverse die and two reverse dies. Variety 1 is more plentiful than variety 2. This Choice AU example has pleasing light yellow-gold surfaces with faintly reflective fields. The strike is typical with weakness on the hair curls from the forehead to the ear, and on the eagle's left (facing) leg. Census: 28 in 55, 42 finer (8/16).
