Description

Rare Uncirculated 1850-C Quarter Eagle

1850-C $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. Although the 1850-C is generally regarded as the second most common C-mint Quarter Eagle from the 1850s, the issue becomes increasingly scarce in the higher circulated grades and only a handful of Mint State pieces are known. The peripheral details of this uncommonly high grade example are strongly struck while the interior devices have characteristic weakness, particularly the eagle's feathers and talons, rather surprising since the reverse die used here was only activated for a portion of the '50-C production and was its first and only usage. The pronounced green-gold surfaces are very lightly abraded for the assigned grade. Population: 2 in 61, 1 finer (12/04).(#7756) (Registry values: P2)
