Well Struck 1850-D Quarter Eagle, AU50

1850-D $2 1/2 AU50 NGC. Variety 13-M. Only 12,148 quarter eagles were coined at the Dahlonega Mint in 1850. The surviving population is estimated at 125-150 pieces, with 38-43 examples in AU grades. The present coin is well struck, unusual for this issue, with only slight weakness on Liberty's curls and the reverse denticles. The pleasing greenish-gold surfaces show few abrasions for the grade.(Registry values: P2)
