Description
Mint State 1851-C Quarter Eagle
1851-C $2 1/2 MS 61 PCGS. This piece was formerly offered as lot number 6170 in our February, 1999 Long Beach Sale where it was described as: "One of the better struck examples of this moderately scarce issue with slight softness apparent on the hair curls around the face of Liberty and some weakness on the eagle's left (facing) leg. The green-gold surfaces have subdued mint luster that has taken on a slight reddish tint. This coin, like others of this issue, shows a series of parallel scratches running diagonally across the face of Liberty. These are obviously of mint origin, and they resemble adjustment marks, but their exact origin is unknown. Aside from these, we also note a vertical scratch next to star 2, and a small tick to the left of the eagle's beak." Certainly a worthwhile piece and exceedingly rare as a Mint State example.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25HM, PCGS# 7760, Greysheet# 8365)
