Description

1851-D Quarter Eagle, MS62
Lustrous Orange-Gold Surfaces
Condition Census Quality

1851-D $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Variety 15-N. A mintage of 11,264 coins and a tiny surviving population of 100 to 125 pieces are enough to place the 1851-D quarter eagle among the top 10 scarcest quarter eagle issues from the Dahlonega facility. Additionally, with only four or five examples in Mint State, Doug Winter (2013) ranks the issue among the top seven dates in high grades.

The hallmark of this MS62 Georgia two and a half dollar is its rich orange-gold color. The stars and date are fully defined, and the reverse legend is similarly bold. Central detail is a touch softer. Lustrous and well-preserved. Population: 5 in 62 (1 in 62+), 1 finer (11/21).
