    Description

    1851-D Quarter Eagle, XF45
    Scarce Dahlonega Issue, Luster Remains

1851-D $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS. Variety 15-N. Light green-gold surfaces retain substantial mint luster for the XF45 grade on both sides of this attractive, low-mintage quarter eagle. Only 11,264 pieces were struck. The central devices show some incompleteness of strike, but the fields and motifs are minimally abraded with Choice appeal. Doug Winter estimates just 100 to 125 surviving examples of the issue. Housed in an old green label holder. Population: 25 in 45, 37 finer (3/16).
