Description

1854-C Quarter Eagle, AU55
Elusive Charlotte Issue

1854-C $2 1/2 AU55 NGC. Variety 1. The 1854-C is one of the scarcer quarter eagle issues from the Charlotte Mint, with an estimated survival of only 105 to 145 pieces in all grades. The typical coin grades only in the VF to XF range, and AU or finer examples are rare. This piece displays bright yellow-gold patina, with minimal grade-consistent abrasions. Some striking deficiency is noted on the eagle's neck and leg feathers, not unusual for this poorly produced issue. Census: 21 in 55, 44 finer (10/14).(Registry values: P2)
