Important Premium Gem 1856 Quarter Eagle
Ex: Bass
1856 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS. This heavily minted pre-Civil War
issue has a handful of pieces above the Gem level in the PCGS
Population Report, which increases its importance to the

famously pedigreed piece is primarily yellow-gold with only a
single, trivial fault below Liberty's chin. The present cataloger
sees no need to disagree with the coin's description in Bass II: "A
splendid eye-appealing coin with rich, smooth, satiny lustre on
obverse and reverse, the latter side challenging perfection."
