Description

Near-Mint 1856-C Quarter Eagle

1856-C $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Variety 17-J, the only die pair for the year. The 1856-C is a challenging issue that is slightly underrated today, due to its proximity to the famously low-mintage 1856-D quarter eagle. Still, series enthusiasts know the difficulty in procuring a near-Mint example. The radiant yellow-gold surfaces of this piece are minimally marked with pillowy detail on the portrait. Census: 23 in 58, 13 finer (8/08).(Registry values: P2)

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
