1856-C $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Variety 1. A scant emission of 7,913 pieces ensures the rarity of this Charlotte issue, struck at a time when California-mined gold was no longer diverted to East Coast mints. This unmarked representative has light apricot-gold color and occasional granularity from the strike-throughs associated with the '56-C.
