Description
1856-S Quarter Eagle, MS61
Ex. S.S. Central America
1856-S $2.50 S.S. Central America #2 MS61 PCGS. Lovely
wheat-gold surfaces cover well-struck devices and minimally abraded
fields. After an initial expedition in the late 1980s and early
1990s, more advanced equipment allowed the recovery of many coins
from the S.S. Central America shipwreck in 2014. Most of the
limited number of quarter eagles onboard were 1856-S examples. The
present offering is housed in an enlarged PCGS holder that includes
a pinch of California gold dust from the seabed.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 670753)
