The mintage of the 1861 exceeded the combined production of all other issues of the denomination from the 1860s, yet Choice Mint State examples are scarce. This is a lustrous and fully struck olive-gold quarter eagle with exceptionally smooth surfaces. and remarkable eye appeal for the designated grade. Population: 76 in 64, 30 finer (6/10).(Registry values: P2)
