Description
1861 New Reverse Quarter Eagle, MS65
A High Mintage Conditional Rarity
1861 $2 1/2 New Reverse, Type Two, MS65 NGC. Yellow-gold
surfaces are blazing with luster and highlighted with a whiff of
violet. The surfaces are pristine, as the Gem grade would suggest.
The Philadelphia Mint made over 1.28 million quarter eagles in
1861, the third highest mintage of the series. However, this date
is surprisingly scarce in Choice Mint State or better, with only 56
certifications in Gem from PCGS and an additional 19 from NGC. This
rarity, plus its Civil War-era issuance, makes this issue an
excellent choice for type sets.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25JV, PCGS# 7794, GSID# 8285)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
