Description
Gem 1861 Quarter Eagle, New Reverse
1861 $2 1/2 New Reverse, Type Two MS65 PCGS. CAC. The New Reverse, featuring smaller lettering and arrowheads, is much more common than the Old Reverse, used for the last time in 1861 on P-mint quarter eagles and distinguishable by the larger arrowheads that nearly touch the R and C in RICA. This Gem example of the New Reverse shows boldly struck surfaces with orange-gold coloration and good luster. A small die crack does run from the smaller middle arrowhead to R, and of apparent Mint origin are a couple of small planchet flakes on the lower reverse. Population: 20 in 65, 10 finer (7/08).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25JV, PCGS# 7794, GSID# 8285)
