Description

Scarce Old Reverse 1861 Two and a Half, MS63

1861 $2 1/2 Old Reverse, Type One MS63 NGC. Final year to use the Reverse of 1858, and as such a very scarce hubbing variant. The space between the arrowheads is also more closed than on the new hub, the lettering is larger and less chunky, and the period after the D is more distant. The surfaces are bright and lustrous with just a tinge of reddish peripheral color. Well struck, there are no mentionable abrasions present on either side. Census: 5 in 63, 5 finer (8/08). (Registry values: P2)
