Description
Scarce Old Reverse 1861 Two and a Half, MS63
1861 $2 1/2 Old Reverse, Type One MS63 NGC. Final year to use the Reverse of 1858, and as such a very scarce hubbing variant. The old hub is distinguished by the lowest arrowhead almost touching the CA in AMERICA. The space between the arrowheads is also more closed than on the new hub, the lettering is larger and less chunky, and the period after the D is more distant. The surfaces are bright and lustrous with just a tinge of reddish peripheral color. Well struck, there are no mentionable abrasions present on either side. Census: 5 in 63, 5 finer (8/08).
