Rare Type One Reverse

1861 $2 1/2 Old Reverse, Type One MS63 PCGS. CAC. A sharply struck and satiny representative with clean fields and minor mint-made die rust on the portrait. The final appearance of the Type of 1858 Reverse, which was sparingly used on the 1859 through 1861 issues. The obsolete reverse subtype is identified by its arrowheads, which touch and are comparatively broad. Although the 1861 is a plentiful date, most examples are from the thin arrowheads, New Reverse hub. Population: 6 in 63, 4 finer (4/09).(Registry values: P2)
