Description
Elusive 1865 Quarter Eagle, AU50
1865 $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. This remarkable quarter eagle survives from an extremely small mintage of only 1,520 business strikes. An additional 25 proofs were coined for collectors. In a series full of rarities, the 1865 is one of those hidden dates that garners little attention. While quarter eagle specialists are fully aware of its rarity, most other collectors would give little thought to this issue. However, a perusal of current population data will clearly show its importance. This splendid piece is sharply detailed, highly lustrous, minimally abraded, and it exhibits pleasing yellow color. Population: 2 in 50, 6 finer (6/10).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25K5, PCGS# 7801, GSID# 8289)
