Description
1870 Quarter Eagle, MS60
Generous Luster and Attractive Color
1870 $2 1/2 MS60 PCGS. CAC. A meager 4,520 circulation
strikes were made of the 1870 quarter eagle, and today the issue is
difficult to find in any problem-free grade. Mint State pieces are
correspondingly more elusive. This example shows generous luster. A
couple of large scrapes show in the left obverse field, with others
on the cheek of Liberty; her profile and coronet show some radial
"lathe lines," an apparent remnant of the die production. Other
smaller marks appear on the reverse. The strike is nice and sharp
throughout. Population: 1 in 60, 8 finer (7/15).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25KF, PCGS# 7811, Greysheet# 8294)
Weight: 4.18 grams
