Description
Bold VF30 1875 Two and a Half
Just 400 Pieces Coined
1875 $2 1/2 VF30 PCGS. Mintages of gold coins at
Philadelphia reached a nadir in 1875. The eagle (mintage 100
pieces) and half eagle (mintage 200 pieces) are legendary rarities.
The quarter eagle and gold dollar each have a production of just
400 pieces but have not captured numismatic attention commensurate
with their rarity. The present quarter eagle is sharper than
expected for the VF30 level and displays noticeable glimpses of
mint luster. The orange and green-gold surfaces exhibit scattered
small abrasions. Encapsulated in an old green label
holder.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25KS, PCGS# 7822, GSID# 8300)
