Description

1876 Quarter Eagle, Honey-Gold MS62
Mintage 4,176 Circulation Strikes

1876 $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. Save for double eagles, every other gold denomination of America's Centennial year saw remarkably small mintages, down in the low thousands or even the hundreds in the case of the eagle at 687 pieces. The 1876 Philadelphia quarter eagle mintage was 4,176 circulation strikes, and Mint State examples are elusive today. This honey-gold MS62 example shows some minor ticks and scrapes along with one larger mark on Liberty's jaw, but still offers a great deal of eye appeal. The obverse strike is somewhat weak on several of the stars and the lower hair. Census: 4 in 62, 4 finer (8/16).
