Description

Lustrous Gem 1878 Quarter Eagle

1878 $2 1/2 MS65 NGC. In 1878 there were more quarter eagles struck in Philadelphia than any other gold denomination except double eagles, although both totals were dwarfed by the enormous mintages of Morgan dollars. Flowing luster and abundant eye appeal are the chief attributes of this marvelous Gem quarter eagle. The apricot-gold surfaces are smooth and well-struck, as usual for the issue. Census: 29 in 65, 4 finer (10/09).(Registry values: P2)
