    Description

    Rare 1881 Quarter Eagle, MS62

1881 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. A rare and highly sought-after issue, the 1881 quarter eagle had a tiny mintage of just 640 business strikes. Fewer than 30 examples have been certified in Mint State, by NGC and PCGS combined, and none have been graded any finer than MS62 by PCGS. The deep copper-orange, lilac, and sea-green toning is this coin's most noteworthy physical attribute. It is also sharply struck and nicely preserved, with fewer marks than expected for the grade. Some cloudiness is noted in the upper left obverse field. Population: 4 in 62, 0 finer (4/09).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25L5, PCGS# 7833)
