Description

1882 Quarter Eagle, MS63 Prooflike
Just One Prooflike Coin Finer at PCGS

1882 $2 1/2 MS63 Prooflike PCGS. The 1880s were a challenging decade for the quarter eagle. Just 4,000 pieces were struck in 1882, and while Prooflike examples from such a mintage are not guaranteed, PCGS reports four Prooflike coins from 1882. This remarkable MS63 has lively, reflective fields and well-struck, frosty devices. Yellow-gold surfaces with lilac in the recesses yield outstanding contrast and eye appeal. Marks are light and grade-consistent, and PCGS reports only one numerically finer Prooflike example (3/26).
