    Description

    1890 Two and a Half, MS65
    Vibrant Wheat-Gold Surfaces

1890 $2 1/2 MS65 PCGS. CAC. A low mintage of 8,720 quarter eagles in 1890 ensures the elusiveness of this issue in Mint State, although the patient collector will find pieces in the MS62 and lower grades with little difficulty. Examples grading in the MS63 to MS64 range are genuinely scarce, and Gems are rare. In perspective, the 1890 is more plentiful in high grade than are most dates from the 1880s, but it is significantly scarcer than later 1890s issues. This piece is boldly struck with fresh, frosty luster. Hints of semiprooflike mirroring appear in portions of the fields when tilted beneath a light. Close study with a loupe reveals a few trivial ticks on each side, none discernible to the unaided eye. Population: 4 in 65, 1 finer (5/15).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25LE, PCGS# 7842)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
