Description

MS67 1899 Two and a Half
Exceptional Quality

1899 $2 1/2 MS67 NGC. Few late-date Liberty quarter eagles can be considered underrated, but the 1899 is such an issue. Only 27,350 pieces were struck for circulation, and it appears that relatively few were set aside by collectors in superior condition. To date (2/10) the grading services are evenly split (4/4) with coins in MS67 with only one finer. As one would expect the surfaces of this piece are nearly perfect. The soft mint luster is original and shows a slight intermingling of lilac and reddish patina. An exceptional coin for the collector who wants something more than a type piece.(Registry values: P2)
