    Description

    1902 Quarter Eagle, MS68
Tied For Finest of the Type

1902 $2 1/2 MS68 NGC. This handsome quarter eagle is well-made from crisp dies showing a few die polishing lines but no cracks, clash marks, or other defects. Both sides have a bold strike with full star details, sharp hair, and full plumage on the reverse. The NGC Census report shows that six examples have been certified MS68, although we suspect that figure may include resubmissions. For the entire Liberty quarter eagle series, NGC has graded 40 submissions MS68 and PCGS has graded nine similar submissions. Neither service has examined anything finer. This impressive Superb Gem exhibits frosty and highly lustrous orange-gold surfaces with pale emerald overtones. A highly appealing piece for the connoisseur.
