Description
1905 Quarter Eagle, MS68
Tied Finest at Either Service
1905 $2 1/2 MS68 PCGS. Beautiful yellow-gold surfaces are
imbued with white-gold highlights. As the lofty grade suggests,
abrasions are nowhere to be found. Striking weakness is similarly
absent, with all design elements rendered in razor-sharp relief.
This issue is common, although the most frequently seen grades are
XF and AU, according to Bowers. He estimates that about 5,500 to
8,000 Mint State coins survive, but that only 10% of these qualify
for Gem status. By the time that the MS68 level of the present
example is reached, populations dwindle down to the vanishing
point, with only 6 certifications recorded at PCGS, and 12 at NGC,
with none finer at either service (3/26).(Registry values: N1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25LW, PCGS# 7857, Greysheet# 8330)
