    1840-C Quarter Eagle, Olive-Gold AU58
    Finest With CAC Approval

1840-C $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1. The only known dies for this low-mintage Charlotte issue (12,822 coins) and the first quarter eagle from that facility featuring the Liberty Head design by Christian Gobrecht. Survival estimates range from 150 pieces (PCGS CoinFacts) to 225 coins (Winter 2008). Probably fewer than 10 examples are known in Mint State, putting added pressure on near-Mint pieces like this. Original olive-gold color is a hallmark, as is the strong strike. Each side is smooth and readily appealing. Exceedingly difficult to improve, and none are finer with CAC's approval. Population: 17 in 58, 12 finer. CAC: 3 in 58, 0 finer (6/18).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25GB, PCGS# 7718)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
